Hi sari
I hope you're okay :-)
I'm on holiday right now, in sunny Dominican Republic and it's times like this when you really realise that you should take a rest and look after yourself.
If you're anything like me, then your normal day would be to get up early and get some paperwork done before you go to the salon, get the salon and deal with loads of problems and get the day organised, and then you start on your full column probably at 9 AM.
I can also bet you're probably the busiest person in the salon, and you spend your day standing behind the chair keeping clients happy and trying to keep an eye on everything that is going on in the salon. And then when you finish, you cash up, and sort any more problems that happened during the day.
Maybe you have someones column to rearrange because the stylist is off sick, sort out some holiday forms, get the stock ordering done etc etc... Sound familiar?
But, you can't do that indefinitely. As hard as you work, you MUST Allow Your Batteries to Re-Charge.
Otherwise You Will Just Burnout...
I Completely Understand That in These Trying Economic Times It's so Easy to Say " I'll Just Work through and Get on with It, Worry about Time off, Health, Nutrition, Spending Time with Family, Spirituality, and Anything Else, I Could Always Do That When Things Get Back to Normal"
BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK?
I think 'THIS' is the norm!, I think what we have been experiencing over the last few years, to be honest was not normal.
I think, that we have to work really hard now to get clients through the door, and there are so many more salons but no more clients. Marketing is KEY! Undersatanding your clients needs is KEY!
When I 1st opened my salon, there were only 6 salons in my town, there are now 24!
So we have to make sure that we become the ONLY choice, and that our customer service, our products, and haircuts and colours are simply the best.
So that when clients think about having their hair done, your salon has to be the 1st and only choice and we can only do that by having exceptionally high standards and exceptionally high skills and simply be better, than anybody else.
And it's no good, being the cheapest, or doing group-on deals where you are encouraging the wrong type of client and end up doing nothing but still have to pay stylists and end up being a busy fool...
So that's why I'm saying to you, it is so important that you look after yourself so that you can perform at really high levels. Any cannot do that if you're tired, overworked, stressed and not eating properly. Am I right?
Don't fall into the trap of working 7 days a week. You MUST take at least one day off a week to recharge your mental batteries. Otherwise you'll just resent everyone and everything and be about as effective as a chocolate teapot.
In tough, uncertain times, balancing your life is more important than ever.
Take a day off to recharge and THEN hit it hard.
You'll get a lot further by doing it this way!
Have a great week :-)
